Rome continued!

So someone just canceled dinner plans and I ended up having dinner with Jordan and it made me want to talk about Italy more! Onto day 2!

So day 1 in Rome really blew me away. Everything about Ancient Rome was so fascinating. The second day was overwhelmingly amazing. This was the day we did the Vatican. I'll never forget it.

We woke up early on Saturday to head to the Vatican Museums, because I had heard everywhere that the line can get crazy long. Thankfully it wasn't too bad the day we went, we didn't even have to wait for an hour. It wasn't even that crowded inside until the time that we left which worked out nicely. Naturally our first stop was the Sistine Chapel! How do you describe it? There really aren't words. I managed to sneak a picture so you can just see for yourselves!

There was all sorts of cool stuff in the Vatican Museums. Everything from Renaissance art to Egyptian mummies (I feel like I run into those all over the place). It started to get really crowded and we had seen a lot so we left at about one and went for lunch!! I had lasagna and it was delicious (we did our best to never eat the same thing twice). Our next stop was St. Peter's Basilica! Again, how do you describe St. Peter's? It is absolutely gargantuan, breathtaking, and beautiful. I am definitely a sight-seer, and this was the ultimate sight there is.

Then came the time to climb to the top! 551 steps it was but we were ready. The book says "the view from the top may even be worth the heart attack it may cause" so we were really excited. The climb up was so strange! One hallway was leaning. Then we turned a corner and the next set of stairs didn't have a railing but they had a rope...

Finally, we got to the top. I'm not even going to bother trying to describe the view. Here are the pictures.

We stayed up there for a while. It was so hard to leave, it was incredible. I could've taken pictures there all day. When we realized that there is food on the ground we managed to pull ourselves away. We made our way towards the Spanish Steps and had dinner somewhere around there (I believe it was pasta again for dinner but I somehow forgot to take a picture of it!). We hung out by the Spanish Steps for a while, it was really packed on Saturday night. There were a lot of really annoying people selling things but we ignored them. We even ran into people who went to Penn!
chillin' on the Spanish Steps!!
Next stop- Trevi Fountain! I can't even explain how romantic Rome was. Trevi Fountain was so gorgeous. If you throw one coin into the fountain, you'll have a quick return to Rome. If you throw two, you'll fall in love!

We thought we should at least try to go out one night so we walked around that night looking for some place to go. The guy running our hostel told us one bar had just been voted the "best beer bar in the world" so we went there. Not going to lie, I'm not much of a beer connoisseur. I guess it tasted good though!

drinking beer...AT THE BEST BEER BAR IN THE WORLD!!
We really couldn't find anywhere else to go. This bar was super small, most people just got their drinks and went and hung out outside. It was sort of cold though and we didn't feel like doing that. We finally decided to just head home, but not before stopping for gelato at like 1 o clock in the morning. It was magical.

SO GOOD
This day was absolutely amazing! Words will never do it justice. More to come later tonight on the rest of Rome!
